My Story
Love for coding and technology
Hi and welcome to the Caigan Systems website. My name is Mike and I setup this Blog site to share with you some tips, tricks, ideas and reviews about coding and electronics for young people or adults who want to get into coding, mabe just as a hobby?
I have been writing code for over 20 years in the finance sector, the software I develop is for keeping track of client details and accounts for small to medium sized finance companies, bit boring really 🙂 I am married, we have 2 sons and a dog, when one of my son's showed an interest and wanted to have a go at coding I started to look at what was out there for teaching kids about computers and coding in particular. I was quite supprised to find that there is quite a lot out there, bit of a jungle if I be honest. I came up with the idea of the Caigan Systems Blog to help other parents, children or anyone really who maybe dosen't have a coding background to guide, encourage and give ideas for their children that have an interest in coding to well, code.
I found out that my sons school ran an after school code club once a week, after he had attended for the first term I asked if they needed any help and that I would be glad to come in and assist the teacher with the running of the club, I'm glad I did as it's great fun helping the students learn to code and to see what great things they come up with.
I quickly realised that coding can be fun for everyone, any age and any ability, whether you have an interest in it or not you can get something from it. With coding you can create games but also, animations, puzzles, music, a website, something to tell you the weather, and lots lots more, pretty much anything you can think of. Coding can teach children problem solving skills, give them an insight into how things work, these days kettles to space rockets all need code to make them work.
So what else do I do, well I like cycling and going to the gym, I also grow succulents and cacti, I like these as other plants tend to die on me, these don't need as much attention as other plants. We're lucky enough to live on a small island, Guernsey in the Channel Islands, so in the summer you will find us on the beach and in the sea.
This is not a business, I doubt I'll earn any money from it, it's just something I love doing and want to share with people. I'll be adding content as often as I can but I know that having a full time job and family means this will not be as often as I would like. Over time I am hoping to build up enough content to give you ideas, help you learn how to do things and maybe start some conversations.
